CCJLSA Scholarship Program:
The intent of providing scholarships to FFA and 4-H students from the Comal County Junior Livestock Show Association (CCJLSA) was enacted to enhance the ability of agriculture students from Comal County to further their education. In voting to do so, it was originally intended that the CCJLSA would provide scholarship funds from the profits made at the concession stand during the Livestock Show and Sale. Each FFA and 4-H program is expected to assist by providing volunteers to work the concession stand.

Currently, each of the four (4) high schools and the 4-H program will be provided three (3) $500.00 scholarships to award to students. The CCJLSA has the final determination of how many scholarships will be offered each year and how much each scholarship will be worth. These decisions will be made by the association based on available funds raised by the concession stand. All three scholarships must be awarded or they will be lost. No roll over policy will be offered.

The CCJLSA will not assume the responsibility of choosing the recipients, rather, the FFA Chapters’ Booster Club, Extension Agents and 4-H Club Managers will give their selections the award at their annual awards banquets and submit the winner’s names to the CCJLSA. The recipients are then required to turn in a copy of their tuition payment for the fall or spring semester from the school they are attending and a thank-you note to the association to receive payment. Expiration of this scholarship award is April 1st of the following year the award is originally made.

If the student applicant is applying through FFA, they must fill out a general scholarship application (available at the counselor’s office or Career Center), provide a copy of their transcript, a personal statement of their future plans to utilize the scholarship money, and they should meet the rules and guidelines provided by the CCJLSA.

If applying through 4-H, the student should meet the rules and guidelines provided by the CCJLSA and contact the Extension Service Office for other application requirements and further details.

Rules and guidelines provided by the CCJLSA:
*Applicant's family are members of the CCJLSA by Dec. 1 each year the student exhibited.
*Applicant's are members in good standing in the FFA or 4-H at the time of application.
*Applicant's participated as exhibitors for at least 2 years during high school.
*Applicant must have participated in operation of the concession stand, or another part of the Show & Sale process, during the stock Show and Sale each year they exhibited in the show during their high school years. Students should collect documentation for the activities in which they participate. The following information is requested: 1) Student Name and Club Affiliation, 2) Signature of Adult in charge of concession stand, or any activity in which the student actively participates to assist the CCJLSA as needed.

These guidelines pertaining to the CCJLSA Scholarship Program may be changed or amended by the Association Membership as needed to improve the scholarship awards program process.

If you have questions concerning the scholarship process, please contact Jamie Ezell at 830-624-6445 or Barbara Wehe at 830-438-2387.
