CCJLSA Scholarship Program:
The intent of providing scholarships to FFA and 4-H students
from the Comal County Junior Livestock Show Association (CCJLSA)
was enacted to enhance the ability of agriculture students
from Comal County to further their education. In voting to
do so, it was originally intended that the CCJLSA would
provide scholarship funds from the profits made at the
concession stand during the Livestock Show and Sale. These
profits would be divided equally among the Ag programs (FFA Chapters & 4-H),
assuming all programs volunteer to work the concession
stand. The requirements set forth by the CCJLSA are:
1. Applicant's family are members of the CCJLSA by Dec. 1
each year the student exhibited.
2. Applicant's are members in good standing in the FFA or
4-H at the time of application.
3. Applicant's participated as exhibitors for at least 2 years
during high school.
4. Applicant must have participated in operation of the
concession stand, or another part of the Show & Sale process,
during the stock Show and Sale each year they exhibited
in the show during their high school years.
Additional 4-H requirements include the following:
1. 4-H Recordbook
2. Interview
3. Short application (includes a 300 word or less description
of involvement with CCJLSA)
In addition to the above, the following must be observed:
There will be a limit of 2 scholarships awarded for each
FFA and 4-H per year. If there is deemed to be only one
qualified applicant, the second award may be rolled over
to the following year, at which time three scholarships may
be given for that year. If only two scholarships are awarded
the next year, the excess funds will be returned to CCJLSA.
The CCJLSA has never assumed responsibility for choosing to
whom the scholarships are awarded. It has been the Association’s
determination that each FFA or 4-H program would award
scholarships to applicants based on criteria set by the program
coordinator and include the requirements of the CCJLSA stated
above.
These guidelines may be changed or amended as needed to improve
the scholarship awards program process.
Students should collect signatures for the activities in which
they participate. The following information is requested:
1. Student Name and Club Affiliation
2. Concession Stand Participation, Herdsman Responsibilities,
and/or Club Responsibilities (Signature of Adult in charge)
for each.
Footnote: If applicant is applying through FFA, the application
form is available at the counselor’s office. If applying through 4-H,
instead of an application form, a short essay and a 4-H recordbook are required.
